What does this apparel represent ?
The Othala rune, also known as the Odal rune, is one of the most important since it is the first letter of the name of the god Odin, the god of war and wisdom and the leader of the Aesir gods. The runes ᚺᚨᛁᛚ:ᛟᛞᛁᚾ (Hail Odin) are common in the Viking world.
The Vikings believed that their runes had magical properties and could be used to affect change in the world. Odin himself hung from the world tree Yggdrasil for nine days and nights while pierced by his own spear to learn the secrets of the runes.
For the Vikings, the Othala rune represented the phonetic sound O and the idea of inheritance and hereditary strength.
In modern rune magic and divination practices, the Othala rune often points towards the ancestors and collective subconscious knowledge. The rune can also be a reminder that we are responsible for our own destiny and to take action.
