While we typically imagine a Viking warrior with an axe, the most prized weapons among the Vikings were swords, and not just any swords.
Swords were expensive to make, and only warriors with several successful raids under their belts would be able to afford one.
Of all the swords used by the Vikings, the most prized were Ulfberht swords, which had superior strength and balance.
Although they were made by many smiths, they were identifiable because the name Ulfberht was inscribed on the blade.
